Cookie Policy
Last updated: May 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Acken Tools (https://acken.com.ng) uses cookies and similar browser-based storage technologies, what information they collect, why we use them, and what choices you have. For our broader approach to privacy, see the Privacy Policy.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as your preferences — so you do not have to re-enter them each time. Cookies can be "first-party" (set by the site you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by a service embedded in the site, such as an analytics or advertising provider).
Cookies have a set lifespan: "session cookies" expire when you close your browser, while "persistent cookies" remain until they reach their expiry date or you manually delete them.
Cookies We Use
1. Essential Cookies (First-Party)
These cookies are set by Acken Tools itself and are necessary for basic site functionality.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
theme | Stores your light/dark mode preference so it persists between visits. | Persistent, First-party | 1 year |
The theme cookie contains only the string light or dark. It contains no personal information and is never transmitted to any
third party.
2. Analytics Cookies (Production Only)
On our production site (acken.com.ng and www.acken.com.ng), we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site at an aggregate level. These cookies are not set on localhost, development, staging, or Cloudflare preview deployments.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics — registers a unique ID used to generate statistical data on how you use the site. | Persistent, Third-party | 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics — used to persist session state between page requests. | Persistent, Third-party | 2 years |
Google Analytics data is anonymised and aggregated. It cannot be used to identify you personally. We use this data only to understand which tools are most used and how to improve the site.
3. Advertising Cookies (Production Only)
On our production site, we serve display advertisements through Google AdSense (Publisher ID: pub-5476892481815940). Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads that are relevant to your interests, based on your browsing history across websites. These cookies are set by Google, not by Acken Tools directly.
Common AdSense-related cookies include:
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
IDE | Google DoubleClick — used to register and report actions after viewing or clicking an ad, for the purpose of measuring ad effectiveness. | Persistent, Third-party | 1 year |
test_cookie | Google — checks whether the user's browser supports cookies. | Session, Third-party | Session |
You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ad Settings or via the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
Managing and Deleting Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Here is how to do it in common browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all cookies and site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
Please note: blocking the theme cookie will mean your light/dark mode
preference is not saved between sessions. Blocking Google Analytics and AdSense cookies
will not prevent the site from functioning, but will limit Google's ability to serve
relevant ads.
Google Analytics Opt-Out
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites you visit, install the free Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. This add-on instructs the Google Analytics JavaScript to prevent sending information to Google Analytics servers.
Do Not Track
Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you do not want your activity tracked. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. We load Google Analytics only on the production domain and respect the Google Analytics opt-out mechanism described above.
Consent
By continuing to use Acken Tools on our production domain (acken.com.ng), you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies from your browser or using the opt-out mechanisms described above. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of any cookie use prior to withdrawal.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
