How is GPA calculated?
GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all the results, and dividing by the total credit hours. For example, an A (4.0) in a 4-credit course contributes 16 quality points. If total quality points = 58 and total credits = 16, GPA = 58 ÷ 16 = 3.63.
What GPA is needed for First Class in Nigerian universities?
On the 5.0 scale used by most Nigerian universities, a CGPA of 4.50 and above typically earns a First Class Honours degree. Second Class Upper is 3.50–4.49, Second Class Lower is 2.40–3.49, Third Class is 1.50–2.39, and a Pass is 1.00–1.49. Requirements may vary slightly by institution and faculty.
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) refers to a single semester's average. CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the weighted average across all semesters completed. Most Nigerian universities report CGPA on transcripts, and it's the figure used for degree classification.
